About the Unit Converter

The Unit Converter converts values across six everyday categories — Length, Weight, Temperature, Data, Speed, and Time — from one clean interface that updates results live as you type. Each category carries its own unit list: length spans millimeters to miles, weight spans milligrams to metric tons, data spans bytes to terabytes, speed includes kilometers per hour, miles per hour, and knots, and time covers milliseconds all the way to years. Temperature is handled separately and correctly, using offset-aware formulas so 100 °C becomes 212 °F rather than the nonsense a simple multiplier would produce. Data units follow a 1024-based binary progression, and the page says so, which matters when you convert gigabytes for storage rather than marketing. Switching categories resets your units to the first two options automatically, so you are never left holding a unit from the previous category. The result card repeats the value, the source unit, and the target unit, making the output unambiguous. Whether you are converting a recipe from ounces to grams, a workout distance from kilometers to miles, or a server quota from terabytes to gigabytes, this free multi-category measurement converter removes the need for reference tables and search-engine queries.

Hand-written guide

Examples

Input
Category = Length, Value = 1, From = Meter (m), To = Foot (ft)
Output
Result: 3.28084 ft
Note: 1 ÷ 0.3048 = 3.28084 — feet convert to meters by the factor 0.3048.
Input
Category = Temperature, Value = 100, From = Celsius (°C), To = Fahrenheit (°F)
Output
Result: 212 °F
Note: Offset math: 100 × 9/5 + 32 = 212, not 100 × 1.8 alone.
Input
Category = Data, Value = 1, From = Gigabyte (GB), To = Megabyte (MB)
Output
Result: 1,024 MB
Note: Data uses 1024-based steps: 1 GB = 1024 MB, as the page note explains.

How to use

  1. 1

Pick a Category from the dropdown — Length, Weight, Temperature, Data, Speed, or Time.

  2. 2

Enter the number to convert in the Value field.

  3. 3

Choose the From unit, such as Kilometer (km) or Celsius (°C).

  4. 4

Choose the To unit, such as Mile (mi) or Fahrenheit (°F).

  5. 5

Read the large Result and the three stats beneath it, which repeat value, source unit, and target unit.

Common use cases

  • Converting a baking recipe from ounces to grams without guessing.
  • Translating a 10k run into miles for a training log.
  • Turning an oven temperature in Celsius into Fahrenheit before baking.
  • Checking how many gigabytes remain when a cloud plan reports terabytes.
  • Converting a commute speed between km/h and mph for a travel article.
  • Working out how many seconds a 90-minute movie lasts for timing math.

Best practices

  • Remember data units here are binary: 1 KB = 1024 B, so disk capacity shown in decimal gigabytes will not match exactly.
  • Temperature conversions include offsets, which is why the tool uses dedicated formulas rather than a shared factor.
  • For the Time category, a month is fixed at 30 days and a year at 365 days — approximations, not calendar-accurate.
  • Do not chain conversions with hand-rounding in between; convert once with the full-precision factor.
  • Expect the From and To units to reset when you switch category — that is intentional and noted in the UI.
  • Verify engineering-critical conversions against an authoritative source before relying on the result.

Tips

  • The Result stat appends the target unit, so there is no ambiguity about what the number means.
  • Watch the note under the result — it changes per category to explain binary, offset, or standard factors.
  • Knots are available in the Speed category for sailing and aviation use.
  • Switching categories auto-resets units, so just pick the new category and re-choose your pair.
